Hey all, I'm starting a 'zine that's loosly based around punk/rock/grunge music and lifestyle. I'm looking for submissions...anything you like, if you want to talk about your local music scene, write about something that bothers you, review an album...I'm also looking for artwork (comics and so on). I assure you that all artwork will be returned to its owners.

So...interested? Comment here or email me angel_emsy@hotmail.com and let me know.

Thankyou :o)

In Memoriam: Derrick Plourde (1971-2005)
Contributed by axx, Posted by aubin on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 8:40:47 AM (EST)

Kris Roe of the Ataris has posted that drummer Derrick Plourde, formerly of the Ataris, Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut, RKL and Mad Caddies shot and killed himself on March 30th.

Kris wrote this for Derrick:

I would like to extend my love and respect to all of Derrick's many friends and family, Joanne, Joey, Jessica, Snodgrass, Derrick's Brother and Father, pretty much everyone in every band in Santa Barbara, just anyone who loved and cared about this guy as much as I did. This is one of those things in the back of your mind you kinda somewhat think could happen anytime then suddenly on the day you get that call it just doesn't really seem real. We defintely take some things... some friendships for granted while we are alive, and then suddenly they're gone. Derrick, I can assure you that tonight in Santa Barbara, Goleta and the rest of the world there are many glasses raised in your honor, Be well and we all love you always.
Our deepest condolences go out to Derrick's friends and family.

Sign the petition,
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has created something called the "nuclear option". It would eliminate the filibuster, and it would make it easier for President-approved people to get elected to the Supreme Court. Can you imagine what it would be like, if the Supreme Court were autimatically filled with people the president selected? Please sign this petition against the "nuclear option" now at http://pfaw.kintera.org/SaveTheFilibuster .

filibusters are a good thing they prevent bullshit laws from going thru.
call your senators and tell them you are agaisnt the "nuclear option"
i did today. i called mel martinez and bill nelson.
mel martinez is for filibusters but his secretary was a bitch.
on the other hand bill nelson is anti filibuster but his secretary was a nice guy. i shall get more politcally active

"Post-election, Bay Area Artists Raise the Distress Flag"

Fat Mike, Musician:
Fat Mike is not a happy man. "When I see a Bush-Cheney bumper sticker on a car, it's time to slash their tires," he says, calling from the offices of his Fat Wreck Chords label. "when I run into a tourist with a southern accent, I teel them to get the fuck out of San Francisco. We're at a coultre war. I'm angry at them."
Leading up to the election, the member of Bay Area punk bands NoFX and Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies did more to mobilize progressive and young voters than certain red-state evangelists did for thei delegations. He released two "Rock Against Bush" compilation CDs, launched the Web site punkvoter.com, and took several bands on tour through swing states.
"We succeeded," he says. "We got the word out. But obviously we're not as organized as the churches."
Even though his candidate of choice, John Kerry, urged reconciliation and unification the day after the election, Mike is not interested. "Fuck that, "he wrote in a statement on the Punk Voter site. "There's no fucking way I am going to come together with those homophobic, flag-waving, God-fearing, gun-toting, uneducated, isolationist, ethnocentric rednecks. We live in a country that's in a shroud of ignorance. We do not compromise or come together with them. We fight them and everything they stand for."

Should Kerry have conceded like he did?
Should he have contested it?
Should he have made sure the DNC was gonna contest it?

If it were contested it would bring the lies and stealing to light, PLUS if the DNC did it, John Kerry would still be able to work with Republicans in the Senate.

Your thoughts, please.

I fancy myself as a rocker of punk.

I also think Bush needs to take a long walk off a short peir.

Will this community be updating whenever Punk Voter posts something new?
